Species Information

General:
Annual herb from a taproot; stems erect, solitary, simple, glandular-hairy, 30-150 cm tall.
Leaves:
Basal leaves elliptic to egg-shaped, 2.5-12 cm long, 1-5 cm wide, glandular-hairy, stalked; stem leaves similar, reduced and narrower upwards.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of numerous flowers in an elongate panicle; corollas dirty white or yellowish, tubular, the tubes 2-2.7 cm long, the limbs 4-8 mm tall, shallowly lobed; calyces 6-10 mm long, shortly 5-lobed.
Fruits:
Capsules, dry, dehiscent, egg-shaped, 8-12 mm long; seeds numerous, brown.

Habitat / Range

Dry cliff bases and sandy slopes in the steppe zone; rare in SC BC, known recently only from Osoyoos; disjunct E to ON and PQ and S to NH, NY, PA, SC, FL, LA, TX, NM, AZ, CA and MX.
